Adrienne Elisha (August 10, 1958 - June 12, 2017)

Composer/violist Adrienne Elisha worked on a concerto for solo double bass and orchestra at MacDowell.

She was the principal violist with The Center for 21st Century Music (Buffalo, NY) and performed with Boston Modern Orchestra Project. She had been featured as both soloist and composer at June in Buffalo, The International Bartok Festival, on Warsaw Radio during the Warsaw Autumn Festival and in multi-media collaborations with the Ensemble Paul Klee (Bern, Switzerland). Performances of her works include those by solo bassist James VanDemark, The Grand Rapids Sypmphony, Eighth Blackbird, The Chamber Orchestra of Boston, The American Chamber Ensemble, The Denali Ensemble, New York New Music Ensemble and the Arditti String Quartet. Other fellowships and residencies include Herrenhaus-Edenkoben Germany (2009), Wellesley Composers Conference (2011), and The Bellagio Center (Rockefeller Foundation (2013).

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students. It was built as a composers’ studio and the stuccoed walls were intended to be soundproof.
