Amanda Padoan worked on her second book while in residence. Her first book, Buried in the Sky, received the NCTE George Orwell Award, the National Outdoor Book Award, and the American Society of Journalists and Authors' Award for nonfiction in 2012.

Sorosis Studio was funded by the New York Carol Club of Sorosis. The small, masonry studio was designed by F. Winsor, Jr., the architect who also designed Savidge Library (1926) and Mixter Studio (1927).
