Amy Hamouda earned her M.F.A. degree from the University of Guanajuato, Instituto Allende, Mexico. Her education included independent study and travel in France, Italy, and Egypt. Best known for her sculpture, Hamouda has also worked in stained glass, paint, and video. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and in Denmark, Egypt, and England. Her awards include a New York State Council on the Arts Creative Artist Public Service Grant for sculpture in 1980.

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow. Sited on a steep westward slope, its porches are supported on wooden posts and fieldstone with lattices.
