Andrea Bewick has been teaching composition, creative writing, and literature for over 25 years at Napa Valley College and elsewhere, and has worked and been involved with the Napa Valley Writers' Conference for almost 30 years. She currently serves as Managing Director of the Writers' Conference. She has a M.F.A. in fiction from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, was a Stegner Fellow in fiction at Stanford, and is a MacDowell Fellow. She has published stories in American Short Fiction, and was a runner-up for the Nelsen-Algren Award.

She approaches all of her teaching as a writer who is writing or trying to write every single day. She is an enrolled member of the Miami tribe and working actively to learn the Miami (Myaamia) language in her free time.

Bewick used her time as a Fellow to complete a draft of a novel she has been working on for more than 10 years, set in the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Originally built near MacDowell's Union Street entrance, the Barnard Studio — which was funded by Barnard College music students — was re-located to its current site in 1910.
