Andrés Carrizo, born in Panama City, Panama and now living in Colorado, is a composer, pianist, and arranger who enjoys producing work that is polystylistic and collaborative in nature. He has a Ph.D. in music composition from the University of Chicago, once studied under Gerardo Gandini while living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has served as a diplomat to his home country.
During his Fellowship at MacDowell, Andrés completed a large-scale orchestral arrangement for an orchestra in Panama. He also completed a movement for a larger suite for his Colorado Springs-based ensemble, SonLingua. In accordance with his preferred style, the movement is a collaboration with q'anjob'al poet Sabino Esteban Francisco, an ethnic Maya poet who writes in his native tongue.
