Angela Fremont is a painter and ceramic artist who has been teaching art to children in New York City public schools for over 23 years. She is the founder of the internationally recognized program Materials for the Arts, and has had numerous fellowships and artist residencies in both the United States and Europe.

Built in 1927–1930, the Florence Kilpatrick Mixter Studio was funded by its namesake and designed by the architect F. Winsor, Jr., who also designed MacDowell's original Savidge Library in 1925.
