Annette Cyr is a writer, filmmaker, and painter, whose creative work has been supported by scholarships and grants from Yale University, Skowhegan School, National Endowment for the Arts, Art Matters, Inc., New York State Cultural Affairs (NYSCA), and Brooklyn Arts Council as well as residency fellowships, from Yaddo, MacDowell, Millay and MASS MoCA.

Cyr grew up in Southern California, earned her M.F.A. in painting from Yale University and spent a year of studies in Italy and one in Paris, France. She now divides her time between New York City and San Diego, where she is lead faculty art & music at National University. Her recent film, Blindness, was in the Festival de Cannes 2018 Short Film Corner, is available on Amazon. Cyr continues to develops her “Women in Predicaments” series of paintings and film projects, exploring the lives of women, shown most recently at the Bonita Museum, Bonita, CA.

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow. Sited on a steep westward slope, its porches are supported on wooden posts and fieldstone with lattices.
