Apechhya Gurung is a filmmaker who explores the cultural impact of spiritual and systemic practices in the "Global South" through world building. Using film, set, and costume design, Gurung studies cultures with animistic practices to expand a deeper understanding of care and altruism with machinery insects. Her goal is to collaborate and bridge the gap between design, tech, and science sectors by diving deep into nature as an exemplar for co-existing within technological ecologies.
During her time at MacDowell, Apechhya collaborated on a short experimental film with Arit Emmanuela Etukudo about letting go of past trauma without reconciliation. Gurung worked as a director of photography and costume designer to create a fantastical realm, which she often constructs in her practice, to explore the vulnerability of the human condition through language, time, and memory.
