Ari Banias works with small press books, teaches poetry in the Bay Area, and is the author of Anybody (W.W. Norton, 2016), which was named a finalist for the Kate Tufts Discovery Award and the PEN Center USA Literary Award. He has been awarded fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, and Stanford University's Wallace Stegner program.
While in residence at MacDowell, Ari revised and wrote toward a second poetry collection. Work from this manuscript has appeared in POETRY, Hyperallergic, A Public Space, and was awarded the 2019 Cecil Hemley Memorial Award and the 2019 Alice Fay Di Castagnola award for a manuscript-in-progress from the Poetry Society of America. His most recent chapbook, A Symmetry, was published by The Song Cave in 2018.
