Armando Bayolo is a composer hailed for his "suggestive aural imagination" and works of "fierce grandeur and subtle, driving power." A native of Puerto Rico, Bayolo is also the founder and Artistic Director of Great Noise Ensemble, Washington, D.C.'s premiere new music ensemble.

While at MacDowell, Bayolo completed work on Los Caprichos, an evening length work in 80 miniatures after Francisco de Goya's eponymous 1799 collection of etchings. The premiere of the concert version will be presented by Great Noise Ensemble in Washington, D.C. in April, 2019. Performances of the staged version, developed in conjunction with the Arcturus Theater Company, would be presented in the spring, 2019.

Van Zorn (formerly Kirby)

Armando Bayolo worked in the Van Zorn (formerly Kirby) studio.

Constructed thanks to a bequest from Sarah L. Kirby, Kirby Studio was the last new building to be erected during Mrs. MacDowell’s leadership (1907-1951).
