Working at the intersection of drawing, sculpture, video, and performance, Asif Mian’s practice reflects on the perceptions and processes of violence. Drawing on personal and collective experiences, Mian psychologically shifts everyday objects and practices through metabolization, embedding, and hybridization.
Mian has been awarded the Queens Museum-Jerome Foundation Fellowship for emerging artists where he exhibited his multichapter project “RAF” in a solo exhibit. Mian has also exhibited at The Kitchen, BRIC, The Shed, and in ‘Queens International: Volumes’ at the Queens Museum. Mian was a finalist for the 2022 Artadia New York award and is a finalist for the Rema Hort Mann Foundation's 2022 emerging artist grant.
While at MacDowell, Mian worked on a thermal infrared video for an outdoor installation at the Okayama Art Summit 2022 in Okayama, Japan. The thermal video installation is part of his 'Specter' series.
