Barbara Dimmick was born and raised in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. She received her B.A. and M.A. from the University of New Hampshire and is the author of Presence of Horses and Heart-Side Up. In 2003 she received the Outstanding Work of Fiction from the New Hampshire Writers' Project and has received the Thurber Fellowship. Dimmick has had residencies at Ucross Foundation, Hawthornden Castle, Yaddo, MacDowell, Vermont Studio Center and Hedgebrook Cottages for Women. After more than twenty years in Vermont and New Hampshire, she moved to Scottsville NY where she shares a home with her husband.

Barbara Dimmick worked in the Chapman studio.
Chapman Studio was funded by Mrs. Alice Woodrough Chapman in memory of her husband, composer George Alexander Chapman. Symmetrically massed, the building is stuccoed on the exterior with a natural, unpainted cement. Its unusual half-timbered ornament consists of slender, knotty spruce poles painted a dark green color. A central, peak-roofed entrance porch appears on the north side…
