Barry Kahn was a conceptual artist, art critic, writer, and exhibition organizer. He worked in Seattle, Washington, Portland, Oregon, and several Eastern cities, but spent the bulk of his relatively short career in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Ann Arbor, Michigan. He organized the Education of Artists Conference at Springhill Center in Minneapolis in 1977 and coordinated the Artists' Exhibition Program at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. He was an articulate and passionate spokesman for artists seeking better public exposure, and was selected as the first coordinator of the MAEP program. Kahn wrote for many publications, including the New Art Examiner, and was a contributing editor to Monthly Detroit. He also broadcast a radio series about art for WUOM at the University of Michigan.
