Carole Maso is the author of 10 books including the novels, Eternity and the Dreamer, Mother & Child, Defiance, AVA and The Art Lover; poems in prose, Beauty is Convulsive and Aureole; essays, Break Every Rule, and a memoir The Room Lit By Roses. She is professor of literary arts at Brown University and a recipient of the 2018 Berlin Prize.

At MacDowell she continued work on a large, impressionistic novel, The Bay of Angels, a meditation on the profound mystery of suffering, the enigma of history, the harrowing tribulations of the soul, the properties of fever and light, and the beauty and resilience of the human psyche.

Calderwood

Carole Maso worked in the Calderwood studio.

In the winter of 1998, motivated by his passion for reading, Stanford Calderwood donated funds for a new writers’ studio. Burr-McCallum Architects of Williamstown, MA, provided the award-winning design in 1999; and the construction of the handsome studio was completed in time for its first artist to arrive early in 2000.
