Carole Shoemaker Swartz was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1945. She received her MFA from the George Washington University in Washington DC and her BFA from the College of the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton OH. Additionally, she attended classes at: Columbus College of Art and Design, Columbus, OH, The Alexandria Art League, Alexandria VA, City Lit University (London, England), The Charlotte Press, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (England), University of Bellas Artes, San Miguel de Allende (Mexico)

Residencies include Montavello Center for the Creative Arts, Saratoga CA, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Sweet Briar VA, MacDowell, Peterborough NH, The Charlotte Press, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England

She has exhibited in numerous Solo and Group Exhibitions throughout the US. Her work can currently be seen at the South Carolina Artisan’s Center in Walterboro, SC., where she has been a member since 2010.

Carole Shoemaker worked in the Cheney studio.

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow. Sited on a steep westward slope, its porches are supported on wooden posts and fieldstone with lattices.
