Carolene Kurien is a Malayali American poet from South Florida. She received her M.F.A. from the University of Miami, where she was a James Michener Fellow. A Tin House alum, her poems have been published or are forthcoming in Bennington Review, Salt Hill, Redivider, BOOTH, and elsewhere. She is an Honorable Mention for Bellevue Literary Review's 2024 Poetry Contest.

At MacDowell, Kurien worked on revising her debut poetry collection, which centers a Malayali American speaker navigating her sexual and romantic desires, mental health issues, and conflicting sense of personhood.

Carolene Kurien worked in the Irving Fine studio.

Youngstown Studio was given to MacDowell by friends of Miss Myra McKeown in Youngstown, OH, where she promoted both art and music. It was renamed Irving Fine Studio in 1972 in honor of Irving Fine, a distinguished composer, conductor, and teacher who was a MacDowell Fellow during the 1940s and 1950s.
