Charles Kondek worked on the libretto of a piece for Shulamit Ran that was based on The Diary of Anne Frank and commissioned by the Atlanta Opera. He also wrote the libretto for Between Two Worlds for Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Shulamit Ran, commissioned and produced by the Lyric Opera of Chicago. The New York City Opera opened its 2009-10 season with a revival of Esther, an opera Kondek wrote for composer Hugo Weisgall. He was the recipient of the Mark Blitzstein Award in Music Theatre presented by the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Youngstown Studio was given to MacDowell by friends of Miss Myra McKeown in Youngstown, OH, where she promoted both art and music.
