Chavisa Woods is the author of three books of fiction and one literary nonfiction book which were scheduled for release in May of 2019. Woods received the Shirley Jackson Award for a piece in her most recent short story collection, Things To Do When You're Goth in the Country, which was selected by actress Emma Roberts as a top pick for her book club, Belletrist. Woods is also the recipient of the Kathy Acker Award in writing, the Cobalt fiction prize, the Jerome Foundation Award, and a three time Lambda finalist. Her work has appeared in Tin House, Lit Hub, Full Stop, Electric Lit, the Brooklyn Rail, and many other notable publications.

While at MacDowell, Woods worked on a new collection of short stories, which ties together themes on death, partying, child abuse, and the environmental/technological apocalypse.

Chavisa Woods worked in the Wood studio.

Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood. Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
