Cheryl Kaplan is a distinguished artist, filmmaker, curator, and writer based in New York. She began her career as an art director in advertising, developing award-winning and internationally acclaimed campaigns for just about everything. Her professional focus is now however, exclusively on her art. She has been exhibited at the BMW Guggenheim LAB, Andrea Meislin Gallery, American Academy Rome, Royal Academy of Arts, and the World Financial Center and has produced films for Laurie Anderson, Eve Busman, and Rosanne Cash, among others.

Kaplan’s critical writing and interviews are published in Art in America, ELLE, BOMB, Tema Celeste, Art News, Deutsche Bank Art Magazine, and Forward. She is the Founder and Director of red square in London and a MacDowell Fellow. Her other honors include a Special Bogliasco Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship in Italy and a Starr Scholar of the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

The Graphics Studio (as it was originally named) was converted to its present use in 1972–1974 through a grant from the Putnam Foundation, and originally served the property as both a power house and pump house.
