Christian-Frédéric Bloquert is a French composer and conductor. As a composer, his work has been recognized through a number of awards including a BMI Composers Award, the Israel/Pellman Prize, and ASCAP Morton Gould Award amongst others. He was also a finalist in the 2021 Basel Composition Competition and the 2023 Luciano Berio Composition Competition. Bloquert was the second recipient of the Pisar Prize in 2024.

As a conductor, he is the co-founder and music director of the BeComEnsemble, an NYC-based contemporary ensemble committed to reshaping the contemporary concert experience by focusing on early career artists.

At MacDowell, Bloquert composed sections of a chamber ballet, Memory, Forgot, commissioned by choreographer Miro Magloire and the New Chamber Ballet that will premiere in New York in fall of 2024. The eight-minute original version of this piece was commissioned by the New York City Ballet Choreographic Institute and premiered in March 2022. He also worked on a piece for orchestra that will be premiered by the orchestra Les Siècles and François-Xavier Roth at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris in October 2024.

Sprague-Smith

Christian Bloquert worked in the Sprague-Smith studio.

In January of 1976, the original Sprague-Smith Studio — built in 1915–1916 and funded by music students of Mrs. Charles Sprague-Smith of the Veltin School — was destroyed by fire.
