Christine Colley Ahrendt (1906-1992) was Born in Dayton, Ohio, and was an accomplished musician and artist. She received her musical training a Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, Juilliard Foundation in New York, Rochester School of Music, and the Eastman School of Music. She had performed in Carnegie and Town Halls in New York and on WLW Radio. She was the featured soloist at a reception for Charles Lindbergh. She was also a soloist in New York for the Women's Democratic Club with Franklin Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Al Smith in attendance.

She studied art at the Florida State College for Women (currently Florida State University), Ohio University, and the Provincetown Workshop in Massachusetts. She had exhibited in several national art shows in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts, winning several awards from the Huntington Galleries, Columbus Art League, the S. M. Levy Memorial Award, and three fellowships from MacDowell.

Mixter

Christine Ahrendt worked in the Mixter studio.

Built in 1927–1930, the Florence Kilpatrick Mixter Studio was funded by its namesake and designed by the architect F. Winsor, Jr., who also designed MacDowell's original Savidge Library in 1925. Mixter Studio, solidly built of yellow and grey-hued granite, once had sweeping views of Pack Monadnock to the east. The lush forest has now grown…
