Clara Steuermann (1922-1982) was archivist of the Arnold Schoenberg Institute in Los Angeles and the widow of the pianist Eduard Steuermann. She died of cancer in Norwalk, CA. She was 59 years old. In recent years Steuermann had been a consulting archivist for the Metropolitan Opera; she had also served as librarian at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

In January of 1976, the original Sprague-Smith Studio — built in 1915–1916 and funded by music students of Mrs. Charles Sprague-Smith of the Veltin School — was destroyed by fire.
