Deirdra McAfee is a fiction writer whose work has appeared in Shenandoah, The Georgia Review, Willow Springs, and The Diagram.

Her most recent work is Lock & Load: Armed Fiction (University of New Mexico Press), a literary anthology of stories about guns, featuring such distinguished contributors as Annie Proulx, John Edgar Wideman, Bonnie Jo Campbell, Rick DeMarinis, Jim Tomlinson, and Pinckney Benedict, plus a host of new voices. Lock & Load’s purpose was to foster the long-delayed conversation about American guns—we have to talk; stories give us ways.

Mixter

Deirdra McAfee worked in the Mixter studio.

Built in 1927–1930, the Florence Kilpatrick Mixter Studio was funded by its namesake and designed by the architect F. Winsor, Jr., who also designed MacDowell's original Savidge Library in 1925.
