Dennis Kowal’s life as a sculptor spans five decades. He studied at the University of Illinois in Navy Pier, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, earning a B.S. and M.F.A. In Kowal’s words, his sculptures manifest convergence of matter, science, and technology. He has also published 11 limited-edition prints and authored the technical book entitled Sculpture Casting. His work has been exhibited in more than 50 solo exhibitions and in hundreds of group shows and lectures. Kowal served as artist-in-residence at “Coolfont,” Haystack-Hinckley, Dartmouth College, Maudslay State Park, OX-BOW, Amherst College, De Cordova Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the University of Georgia, Yaddo, and MacDowell. He is also the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Millennium Award from the Florida State Department Division of Cultural Affairs.
