Born and raised in New York, Donna Gans presently lives and works in Montana. She received her MFA from Pratt Institute and has exhibited in galleries and collections throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

She begins with a direct visual reference to provide a basic structure then layers, scrapes and rebuilds. This process evokes the once undesired effects of pentimento. Forms and images emerge and disappear through veils of layered pigment. The original image is almost always lost, save the deliberate remains of earlier markings and whispers of underlying color.
