Dora Aydelotte (1878 - 1968) was a writer and novelist born in Altamont, Illinois. Aydelotte attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago before choosing a writing career and attending the Women’s College of Richmond, VA. Her work then appeared in the Forum, a publication by Dodd Mead, and portions of her work were broadcast by the radio station WCFL in Chicago. Aydelotte was also an honorary member of the National League of American Pen Women, and taught writing classes in Oklahoma City.

Marian MacDowell and friends originally named this studio in memory of Anna Baetz, the nurse who helped care for Edward MacDowell in the waning years of his life.
