Douglas Culhane received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Colgate University and a master’s degree in sculpture from The University of Iowa. His sculptures and drawings have been recognized in numerous grants and Fellowships from organizations such as the New Jersey Council on the Arts, MacDowell, The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Yaddo, and the Edward Albee Foundation. He currently lives in Churchtown, New York.

New Hampshire Studio, originally named Peterborough Studio, was given to MacDowell by Mr. and Mrs. William Schofield, Mrs. H. A. Chamberlain, Mrs. Andrew Draper, and Miss Ruth Cheney.
