Liz Countryman worked on her first collection of poems, A Forest Almost, which was selected by Graham Foust as the winner of the 2016 Subito Press Poetry Prize and was published by Subito in 2017. She completed her Ph.D. in creative writing at the University of Houston and joined the English Department at the University of South Carolina as Writer in Residence. She is also coeditor of the poetry journal Oversound.

Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood. Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
