Elizabeth K Reeder, originally from Chicago, lives in Scotland and writes novels, essays, and stories. Her first novel, Ramshackle was shortlisted for a number of awards including a Saltire Literary award (2013). Her second novel, Fremont, a story of ill-starred fairytale romance is full of prejudice and desire, and it garnered great reviews. direction is the moment you choose, a collection of essays about crisis, creativity, and living grief, was a finalist in the 2015 Essay Press book competition. An extract was subsequently published as One Year (Essay Press, 2016), with the full m/s going out to tender in late autumn 2016. Her interest in the essay (in particular in experimental, hybrid forms) has developed from a desire to write so that language, form, and structure embed knowledge in a way that can be ‘read’ like poetry and art with a high level of complexity and intentional ambiguity. She teaches creative writing at University of Glasgow, where she co-convenes that programme. Her third novel, Those We Buried, will be published in Spring 2018 (details announced soon). Youngstown Studio was given to MacDowell by friends of Miss Myra McKeown in Youngstown, OH, where she promoted both art and music. It was renamed Irving Fine Studio in 1972 in honor of Irving Fine, a distinguished composer, conductor, and teacher who was a MacDowell Fellow during the 1940s and 1950s.
