Ellery Akers is an American poet and writer. She has authored two collections of poetry as well as a children’s novel. Plainspoken, Akers’ work explores the human condition through the eyes of joy and grief. Her unique works have earned her many honors and awards, including the Poetry International Prize, the John Masefield Award, and more.

New Hampshire Studio, originally named Peterborough Studio, was given to MacDowell by Mr. and Mrs. William Schofield, Mrs. H. A. Chamberlain, Mrs. Andrew Draper, and Miss Ruth Cheney. The studio was renamed in 1943. The Gilbert Verney Foundation established an endowed maintenance fund in 1990, and a bequest in memory of MacDowell Fellow Victor Candell underwrote the…
