While at MacDowell Eric Slater worked on a memoir. A former journalist, he spent time in Iraq and Afghanistan, and was a member of the team that won the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news in 1998. He's originally from a small Oregon logging town.

Eric Slater worked in the Wood studio.
Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood. Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
