Errollyn Wallen’s works include symphonies, ballets, operas, and chamber music, albums as singer/pianist and The Errollyn Wallen Songbook. Recent commissions include two works featuring the London Symphony Orchestra for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games – PRINCIPIA, for massed choirs and orchestra, and Spirit in Motion, for soprano and orchestra. The event was broadcast to a billion people around the world. Other commissions include Diamond Greenwich for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, One Night BBC drama series (winner of the FIPA D’Or for Best Music for a Television Series), and the Another America operas performed at Royal Opera House and Sadler’s Wells. Her music was played in outer space on the NASA STS-115 mission. Winner of the British Composer Award, Errollyn Wallen was awarded the MBE in 2007 for services to music and, in 2013, was awarded the Ivor Novello Award for Classical Music. She is currently working on her thirteenth opera, Sabina, to a libretto by David Pountney.

Irving Fine

Errollyn Wallen worked in the Irving Fine studio.

Youngstown Studio was given to MacDowell by friends of Miss Myra McKeown in Youngstown, OH, where she promoted both art and music. It was renamed Irving Fine Studio in 1972 in honor of Irving Fine, a distinguished composer, conductor, and teacher who was a MacDowell Fellow during the 1940s and 1950s.
