Through my textile and mixed media work I explore the questions of home, the sense of belonging, passage, ephemeral and the disappearance of the body. My practice is inspired and directed by remnants, refuse, overlooked and lost elements of daily life as an exploration of the spaces we inhabit, starting with the body, the first place that contains us. I am exploring the presence of the body in the city, the ways of inhabiting spaces, and the brittle narrative that links us to each other.
Fanny Allié graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie, in Arles, France in 2005 and then moved to New York. She has had solo shows at Princeton University, DOTArt, A.I.R Gallery, NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, Fresh Window, Equity Gallery, Chashama, and St Eustache Church in Paris, France. She has also taken part in group shows at NYU/Gallatin Gallery, Dorsky Gallery, Freight + Volume, Field Projects, BRIC Rotunda Gallery, Dekalb Gallery/Pratt Institute, and The Bronx Museum among others.
Fanny was awarded the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Studio Program and the Yaddo Residency Program in 2019, and is a recipient of the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship, Craft/Sculpture Fellow (2020) and a 2020 Dieu Donné Workspace Resident.
At MacDowell, Fanny created a series of site-specific textile-based pieces for which she used local materials found on the premises and in the town of Peterborough. Recent textile works were exhibited in a three-person show at Owen James Gallery in Soho, NY in 2021.
