Florrie James is a filmmaker based in Bristol, UK. Her work uses improvisation and collaboration alongside traditional screenplays to add a reflexive structure and to allow real situations to enter into the stories she depicts.
James graduated from Elias Querejeta Zine Eskola in San Sebastián, Spain in 2019. There, she developed several artist films that have been widely screened at festivals, including London Short Film Festival, Alchemy Film Festival, Glasgow Short Film Festival, Mimosa Documentary Festival, and broadcast on BBC 4 and Iplayer. James recently set up the production company Handsome Stranger and is writing a feature film as well as producing a documentary in Cuba. Her films have been shown at group exhibitions in places such as Denmark, Cologne, and London.
At MacDowell, Florrie worked on the screenplay of a feature film and developed a new series of paintings.
