Gabriel Martinez is an artist and performer whose work explores relationships produced by the built environment. Martinez graduated with an M.F.A. from Columbia University and attended the Whitney Independent Study Program before moving to Texas as a Core Program Fellow. He is the founder of Alabama Song, an experimental arts space in Houston and an active participant in Houston's creative music scene. Martinez was awarded a Rauschenberg Foundation SEED Grant in 2016 and a Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant in 2019.

During his time at MacDowell, Gabriel completed five hand-sewn quilt paintings for upcoming shows, the largest of which will be included in "Soy De Tejas" at Centro De Artes in San Antonio. He also practiced percussion in preparation for an upcoming They, Who Sound performance in Houston.
