Gabriela Amaral Almeida is a director, scriptwriter, and playwright. She earned her master’s degree in literature and horror cinema from UFBA in Brazil and then specialized in scriptwriting at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV in Cuba. She also participated in Sundance Institute’s screenwriters lab, directors lab, and film music and sound design lab.
She wrote and directed the thriller film The Friendly Beast in 2016 then the following year, the horror drama The Father’s Shadow.
While at MacDowell, Almeida wrote a full 50-page treatment of her next feature film, She, Crocodile (Crocodila), a “horror fable” telling the story of a woman who slowly morphs into a vicious crocodile.
