While at MacDowell Galen Jackson worked on a 1980s Brat Pack styled video/art/soap/opera/feature/film as well as a screenplay for a buddy film about Depression-era anarchists. He is the recipient of the Murphy and Cadogan Contemporary Art Award for myriad works revolving around piles of fossil flour and gelatin capsules.

Funded by the Phi Beta Fraternity, a national professional fraternity of music and speech founded in 1912, Phi Beta Studio was built between 1929–1931 of granite quarried on the MacDowell grounds.
