Germaine Claire Keller (1938-2016) was an artist, art director, educator, and gallerist from Detroit, MI. She married and had three children before earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in sculpture and painting from Wayne State University. In 1977, she moved to New York to teach at Parson’s School of Design at New York University. She received grants and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, MacDowell, the Athena Foundation, and the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) as part of the Cultural Council Foundation CETA Artist Project. Keller exhibited in many galleries and public installations before opening her own gallery and finding her life’s work curating shows and providing a venue for the discourse of modern art. Over the years she also worked as an art director for the Wall Street Journal, operated the Germaine Keller Gallery, and taught at Austin Community College and Laguna Gloria in Texas.
