Gina Schien is a graduate of the NIDA Playwrights Studio, an AWGIE Award winner and a MacDowell Fellow. Her plays and fiction have been published and performed in Australia and overseas.

Her plays include: Relative Comfort (New Theatre, Sydney; Bailiwick Theater, Chicago); the Dyke Variations (Women's Theatre Project, Florida), Cake on a Plate (Oxford and Brighton Fringe, UK; Short and Sweet, Sydney) the Collection (Theatre Songe); the Lesbian Variations (Slide Bar, Sydney); the Clerk Ascending (ABC Radio), Pulpit Rock (Short and Sweet; Eastside Radio); Good Woman Smoking (World Bar), Charlie's Window (Short and Sweet Sydney; Brisbane Emerge Festival) and Play Like a Girl (New Theatre).

She was a co-writer for Life Is a Funny Business (New Theatre) and I am Not Emily Dickinson (Teatro Cortile, Italy; Adelaide Fringe).

Studios

Sprague-Smith

Gina Schien worked in the Sprague-Smith studio.

In January of 1976, the original Sprague-Smith Studio — built in 1915–1916 and funded by music students of Mrs. Charles Sprague-Smith of the Veltin School — was destroyed by fire. Redesigned by William Gnade, Sr., a Peterborough builder, the fieldstone structure was rebuilt the same year from the foundation up, reusing the original fieldstone. A few…
