Hans Koning (7/12/1921 – 4/13/2007) is a famous author from Amsterdam. He was educated at the University of Amsterdam, the University of Zurich, and the Sorbonne. He was the author of more than 40 fiction and non-fiction books as well a prolific journalist, contributing for almost 60 years to publications like The New York Times, International Herald Times, Atlantic Monthly, The Nation, Harper’s, The New Yorker, and De Groene Amsterdammer. Koning is the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships for creative writing and a MacDowell Fellowship. Four of his novels were made into films and he also ran Literary Discord, a radio program discussing literature.

Sorosis Studio was funded by the New York Carol Club of Sorosis. The small, masonry studio was designed by F. Winsor, Jr., the architect who also designed Savidge Library (1926) and Mixter Studio (1927).
