Helene Fraenkel (1890-1987) wrote the play Dark Legend: A Play in Three Acts based on the novel by Dr. Frederic Wertham. It opened March 24, 1952 at the President Theater in New York. Among the cast were Olive Deering as the mother, James Lipton as son Gino and James Daly as one of her lovers. One of the play’s producers was actor Darren McGavin, best known for his cult classic television show, "Kolchak: The Night Stalker.” It closed after eight shows.
