Henry M. Christman is the author and editor of more than 20 books, represented in some 50 editions. He is a former New York State and New York City commissioner. Among his best-known publications are The Essential Works of Lenin (1966) and Walt Whitman’s New York: From Manhattan to Montauk (1998).

Cheney Studio was given to MacDowell by Mrs. Benjamin P. Cheney and Mrs. Karl Kauffman. Like Barnard Studio, Cheney is a low, broadly massed bungalow.
