Herbert Oswald Nicholas Kubly (4/26/1915 – 8/7/1996) was an American author and playwright born in a Swiss American community in Wisconsin. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Journalism and wrote his first professional work as a journalist for the Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph. He later wrote for the New York Herald Tribune and became an associate professor of speech at the University of Illinois. Kubly also taught creative writing at San Francisco State College and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, whose English Department established a writing award in his honor. Over the course of his career, Kubly wrote 11 books, 6 plays, and many more articles and essays.
