Visual artist Hồng-Ân Trương uses photography, video, and sound to explore immigrant, refugee, and decolonial narratives and subjectivities.
Her work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions at the International Center for Photography, the Nasher Museum of Art, The Kitchen, Nhà Sàn (Hà Nội), the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Rubber Factory, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the MCA Chicago, among many others. Her collaborative work with Hương Ngô was exhibited in “Being: New Photography” at MoMA in 2018.
She was a 2019-2020 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow in fine art and the Capp St. artist in residence at the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art in 2020.
Trương is currently working on a long-term project, “We Are Beside Ourselves,” which reframes the Third World Liberation movement in relationship to the construction of Asian Americans as a political identity. The project makes connections between moments not typically narrated together in order to reflect on our current political climate and racial tensions.
