Jack Perla resides in San Francisco. He worked on a full-length opera with librettist and playwright Rajiv Joseph, based on Salman Rushdie's Shalimar the Clown, for Opera Theater St. Louis. His opera Jonah & the Whale received its premiere in 2014 with Los Angeles Opera, James Conlon conducting.
