Javier Zamora was born in El Salvador and at the age of nine migrated to the United States to be reunited with his parents. At MacDowell, he worked on his first poetry collection, How We Learned to Walk, which strives to explore the reasons why Salvadorans are now the second largest immigrant group in the United States, and began developing what would become his memoir, Solito. He was the recipient of a 2015 National Endowment for the Arts grant in poetry.
