Jay Kirk is an American journalist, author, and lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his B.A. in English and his B.F.A. in creative writing at Emerson College. He has written for publication such as GQ, The New York Times Magazine, and Harper’s. Kirk is recipient of the 2017 Whiting Foundation Creative Nonfiction Grant, a finalist distinction for the National Magazine Award, the 2005 Pew Fellowships of the Arts, and a MacDowell Fellowship. He is the founder of Xfic, a journal of experimental nonfiction at the University of Pennsylvania.

In the winter of 1998, motivated by his passion for reading, Stanford Calderwood donated funds for a new writers’ studio.
