Jennine Hough (b.1948), a North Carolina native, received her undergraduate degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her M.F.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She continued her studies as the recipient of a scholarship to the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, as a fellow to MacDowell, and as a recipient of an NEA-SECCA grant. She continues to study portrait and figure painting. After an early career teaching painting and art history in the Atlanta area, Jennine focused her efforts solely on painting. She had solo exhibits in New York, Washington, Santa Fe, Atlanta, Aspen, and other cities and has participated in many group exhibitions. She is represented in museum, corporate, and private collections.

Originally a working barn perched atop the namesake hill of Hillcrest Farm, this building was converted to serve the arts in 1956. A grand set of windows was installed to make the large interior suitable for visual artists, bringing in abundant natural light from the north.
