Joel Hoffman is a composer from Cincinnati, OH (originally from Vancouver). While at MacDowell, he worked on two string quartets. He was also awarded a residency at the Aaron Copland house, where he continued composition projects.

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students.
