Jonathan Spector is a playwright and theatre-maker. His plays, including Eureka Day (on the San Francisco Chronicle's 'Best of 2018 list'), Good. Better. Best. Bested., Siesta Key, and Adult Swim, have been produced and developed at theaters across the country including Roundabout Theater Company, Berkeley Rep, South Coast Rep, Aurora Theatre, San Francisco Playhouse, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Crowded Fire, The Lark, and Custom Made Theater and Just Theater, where he is co-artistic director.

Awards include the Rella Lossy Award for Best New Play, Theatre Bay Area Award for Outstanding World Premiere and Aurora Theatre’s Global Age Prize. San Francisco magazine recently cited him as one of "100 Artists putting the East Bay on the Map."

At MacDowell he wrote a new draft of his play What Comes Next and continued work on his play Eureka Day, which was scheduled to have its New York premiere with Colt Coeur Theater in August, 2019.

Jonathan Spector worked in the Wood studio.

Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood. Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
